Joseph would fall down. It’s the second best mental image of him ever. The best one is him falling down the stairs. Which actually happened to him.

HERE IS THE TALE; a find from Goebbels’s personal papers:

“A letter dated June 2, 1931, signed by two women, in response to a request published by Goebbels in the newspaper, Angriff, asking for witnesses to an incident on June 1, 1931 (before Hitler came to power). The letter is notarized:

 
Dr. Goebbels and another came out of the police station in the Maikaeferkaserne with the Führer. As he came through the door, the police brought one of our brown shirts by force up the steps to the entrance. Dr. Goebbels, who stood in their way at the door, was hit on the shoulder by one of the police officials and pushed out of the way so that he fell down the steps. The handling of our Führer started a demonstration on the part of the crowd, which hooted at the police, and Heils for the Führer broke out. Then the police attacked the crowd with blackjacks and we were driven off.”
